📌 Summary
Dimensions are the categorical fields in your data (such as Region, Product, Department, or Customer Type) that make it possible to group, filter, and analyze measures. In cofi.ai, you have control over whether these dimensions are visible or hidden when users build metrics, drill downs, or dashboards. Managing visibility helps reduce clutter, maintain consistency, and ensure only the right categories are available for analysis.
🔑 Key Concepts
- Simplify user experience – Prevent users from seeing duplicate or irrelevant fields.
- Maintain data governance – Hide dimensions that may contain sensitive or non-validated data.
- Guide analysis – Ensure teams are using the correct categories for drill downs and filters.
- Customize reporting – Expose dimensions only in the contexts where they add value.
📍 Where to Manage Dimension Visibility
You can configure dimension visibility in the Database Schema or within specific Metrics.
- Database Schema – Controls the default visibility of a dimension across the workspace.
- Metric Settings – Lets you override visibility on a case-by-case basis for certain calculations or dashboards.
How to Hide a Dimension
- Navigate to Database > Settings > Schema.
- Locate the dimension column you want to manage.
- Toggle Visibility to “Hidden.”
- The dimension will no longer appear in drill downs, filters, or dashboards unless specifically exposed.
- Save your changes.
How to Expose a Hidden Dimension
- Open the metric, dashboard, or schema where you want the dimension available.
- In the Dimension settings, toggle Visibility to “Exposed.”
- The dimension will now be available for drill downs, filters, or dashboard views.
